Data & AI consulting for mid-market companies

Numbers your team can actually run the business on.

Runrate Advisory builds dashboards, data foundations, and AI automation for companies still running on spreadsheets. Fixed price. Two-week builds. Senior work only — nothing handed to a junior team.

Most engagements start with a fixed $2,500 audit — low risk, useful either way.

Reporting eats your week

Someone spends every Monday exporting, pasting, and fixing the same spreadsheet. The report is stale before anyone reads it.

Nobody trusts the numbers

Sales has one figure, finance another, the ERP a third. Meetings turn into arguments about whose number is right.

AI built on bad data lies faster

Copilot and AI tools only work on a clean, well-modeled foundation. Most companies skipped that step. That's the step we do.

What is manual reporting costing you?

Labor only — no inflated "opportunity cost" math. Slide to match your team.

Total across everyone — exports, copy-paste, fixing broken spreadsheets, re-checking numbers.

10 hours / week

We apply a standard 1.3× load for employer taxes and benefits.

$75,000 / year

$24,400

per year on manual reporting

Loaded hourly cost$47/hr
Per month$2,030
Per week$469

A $2,500 Health Check that maps how to eliminate this pays for itself in 5.3 weeks of the status quo.

Math: hours/week × (salary × 1.3 ÷ 2,080 working hours) × 52 weeks. Deliberately conservative — it counts labor only, not the cost of decisions made late or made on wrong numbers.

Services & pricing

Fixed scope, fixed price, quoted in writing before work starts. Anything beyond agreed scope is a written change order — never a surprise invoice.

Build

Dashboard Sprint

One production-grade Power BI dashboard answering your top five to seven business questions — built on a proper data model, with row-level security, automated refresh, documentation, and team training.

  • Working draft in week one, production-ready in week two
  • Built on the systems you already have (ERP, CRM, accounting)

Foundation

Single Source of Truth

A unified data model across your ERP, spreadsheets, and software tools — the layer underneath every dashboard and every AI tool you'll ever add. This is where database design matters, and it's the difference between reports that hold up and reports that quietly break next quarter.

$20,000–50,000scoped per project

Train

Power BI & AI Workshops

Hands-on training for your own team, on your own data — not generic slideware. Three formats: Power BI for analysts (modeling and DAX done right), dashboards for leaders (how to actually read and run meetings from them), and practical AI for operations teams (what to automate, what to skip, and how to do it safely).

Ongoing

Fractional Data Team

Ongoing dashboard development, data maintenance, new metrics, and AI automation on a monthly retainer — a senior data team at a fraction of the cost of one full-time hire, with a standing review call so the work never drifts from what the business needs.

How it works

The same sequence every time. No discovery phases that never end.

Fit call

Twenty minutes. You walk me through how reporting happens today; I tell you honestly whether this is worth fixing — and whether I'm the right person to fix it.

Health Check

Build & run

A fixed-price Sprint or foundation build, then optionally a monthly retainer to keep improving it. Each step is its own decision — no long contracts.

Built by the person you talked to

Runrate Advisory is led by Kevin White — a data consultant in the Salt Lake City area with 12+ years building reporting, data models, and automation across construction, financial services, technology, and professional services. I've spent my career inside operating businesses, not just advising them, so I know exactly what it's like when the Monday report is wrong and the meeting goes sideways.

The work sits at the intersection most consultants don't cover: solid database design underneath, dashboards people trust in the middle, and AI automation on top. Pure BI shops can't do the AI. Pure AI shops build on bad data. We do the whole stack.

Past work includes engagements at Intel, Cornerstone Advisors, Aya Healthcare, Basic American Foods, Medical Solutions, Analytics Vault, Alden, Candy Co, and more.

Fixed priceEvery engagement is quoted in writing before work starts. Scope changes are written change orders, agreed in advance.
Senior onlyThe person who scopes your project builds your project. No bait-and-switch to a junior bench.
No lock-inEverything is documented and built on your own systems and licenses. If we part ways, you keep a working asset — not a hostage.
Straight answersIf your problem isn't worth $2,500 to fix, or someone else is a better fit, you'll hear that on the first call.

Common questions

Do you only work with companies in Utah?

No — about half the work is remote with companies around the US. Being local along the Wasatch Front just means Utah clients can get in-person working sessions when it helps.

What systems do you work with?

Most engagements involve some mix of an ERP or accounting system (Sage, Viewpoint/Vista, QuickBooks, NetSuite), a CRM (Salesforce, HubSpot), SQL databases, and a lot of Excel. If your data lives in it, we can almost certainly connect to it. Power BI is my go-to for the dashboard layer and where I run deepest — but the thinking travels. I also build in Tableau and other visualization platforms, and when off-the-shelf tools aren't the right fit, I build custom reporting tools around how your business actually works. The AI layer is built on Microsoft and Anthropic/OpenAI tooling.

We already have Power BI and some reports. Is this still for us?

Often especially so. Most "we have Power BI" companies have dashboards built on shaky data models — slow, fragile, and quietly wrong. The Health Check tells you exactly what's salvageable and what isn't, before you spend more on top of it.

Why is the audit paid instead of free?

Because a free assessment is a sales pitch with extra steps. Charging $2,500 means you get a real deliverable with real recommendations — including "you don't need me for this" when that's the honest answer.

How fast can we start?

A Health Check can usually kick off within one to two weeks of signing. Builds are scheduled after the audit, typically starting within two weeks.

If your Monday report takes half a day to build, we should talk.

Twenty minutes, no slides, no pitch deck. Tell me how reporting works at your company today and I'll tell you straight whether it's worth fixing.
